Dudley parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. Parkrun is 5km (3.1 miles) in length and takes place every Saturday morning at The Dell stadium in Brierley Hill. The ethos behind parkrun is that it is positive, welcoming and inclusive, there is no time limit and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to come along. Whilst the first finishers can complete the course in under 20 minutes, the tail walkers often take well over an hour. Everyone is cheered along the way by our wonderful team of volunteers.
Dudley parkrun is entirely organised and led by volunteers. Around 30 people are needed each week to enable the event to go ahead. Whilst many of the volunteers are runners or walkers who’ve taken a week off to help out, there are plenty of others who just volunteer and support the event. There are a wide variety of volunteer roles that people can do, there’s something for everyone. The marshals for instance stand out on the course, cheering people on and making sure they stay on course and there are timekeepers who make sure that participants get an accurate time for their efforts. You can find more about the roles at: https://tinyurl.com/2p8bxp9a
Volunteers for the event typically arrive at The Dell at 8:15am on Saturday morning and are finished around 10am. They’ll be outside for most of this time, which is great in the summer but you may need a coat in the winter!
There is a wonderful community of people at Dudley parkrun, many friendships have been made there and they pride themselves on how friendly and inclusive they are.
