Volunteers play a vital role in delivering the day-to-day activities of many not-for-profit organisations, indeed, there’s a lot that simply would not happen without them. However, the nature of volunteering is changing, with fewer people able to make a regular commitment and the corresponding growth of one-off or short-term opportunities that don’t place the same demands on people’s time.

In response to these changes, we have launched Time to Give Where You Live, matching people who want to volunteer on a short-term basis with the opportunities to do so. We are actively recruiting people who want a volunteering experience tailored to suit their needs and circumstances alongside people with no experience of volunteering who want to ‘dip their toe’.

However, volunteers are only one half of Time to Give Where You Live, for it to be successful, we need to sign up organisations and groups who can provide appropriate opportunities. These could include litter picks in a park you look after, help with setting up and running events, fundraising, setting up a social media page, or decorating a community venue. Whenever you need some help that’s one-off or short-term, you will be matched with people who are keen to make a difference in their communities.

When people sign up we get a sense of their availability and ask them which area of the borough they want to volunteer in. Whenever possible we will match people with opportunities that are local to them, but there are people who don’t mind travelling further afield to volunteer. We also ask them what kind of good causes they are interested in supporting. These are the criteria we use when trying to achieve a match. We already have 100 people signed up and ready to go!

If you have these kind of short-term volunteering opportunities available, please let us know so that we can share them with our pool of volunteers. Telling us about your volunteering opportunity is simple. All we need to know is a little bit about what people will be expected to do, the date(s) you need them to help and whereabouts they need to go, any requirements for the opportunity and how you are set up to support volunteers.

Completing this form will capture all the information we need to match you with volunteers. You will have responsibility for their induction, any relevant training and their subsequent support, but we will of course work alongside you to provide help where it is needed.
