Government plan to inspire a generation into sport

The government has announced a 10-point plan to help ‘inspire a generation’ to take up sport as the legacy from the London 2012 Games. The plan includes £1billion investment in youth sport and £135million investment in Sport England’s Places People Play Programme for new facilities, volunteering and increasing participation.

The plan includes:

  • £125 million per year UK Sport funding for elite sport over the next four years.
  • £300 million investment to open up the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to the community.
  • Winning the rights to host over twenty world sporting events across the UK up to 2019.
  • £135 million investment into Sport England’s Places People Play programme to fund new facilities, volunteering and participation programmes.
  • £1 billion investment over the next five years in the Youth Sport Strategy to link schools with clubs and to develop sporting habits for life.
  • Introduction of the Sainsbury’s School Games programme and county sports festivals.
  • £1.5 million funding to the English Federation of Disability Sport to increase participation in sports by disabled people.

Free legal advice on offer to sports organisations
Sports organisations can now apply for free legal advice after Sport England, the Sport and Recreation Alliance, UK Sport and Sport Wales teamed up with 10 law firms.
The law firms have committed to provide up to £5,000 worth of advice direct to national governing bodies and sport and recreation organisations.  £ 1 milllion Queen Elizabeth II Fields Volunteer Support Fund
SITA Trust has joined forces with HRH Prince William and the Fields in Trust to support the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge. The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge aims to protect 2012 outdoor recreational spaces across the country as a permanent living legacy of the Diamond Jubilee. Once an area has been designated a Queen Elizabeth II Field an application can be made to SITA Trust’s £1 million fund for improvements to the area.To find out more about how you can get involved in the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, please visit: http://www.qe2fields.com/.


Black CountryBeActive Sports Partnership: Coaching bursary scheme

 Size of grant available: £1,000 maximum per organisation per year (up to 50% of course costs).
Aims and outcomes of funder: Increase capacity/coaches within sports clubs providing coaching for young people aged 16+.
Additional information: Funding only available towards levels 1-3 coaching qualifications.

Lords Taverners

Sports clubs are invited to apply for funding to assist with the purchase of manual sports wheel chairs for young people aged 8-25. The Sports Wheelchairs Sponsorship scheme is aimed at helping young disabled people participate in and enjoy wheelchair sport. Grants of up to 50% of the cost of the wheelchair with a maximum £1,500 are available.

Rugby Football Foundation

Only clubs at levels 5 and below in the English Clubs Rugby Championship can apply to this fund which is aimed at investing in community rugby facilities. The Foundation will finance capital projects that improve facilities, contributing to the recruitment and retention of community rugby players. There are three funding streams as follows:

·        Ground Match: £1,500-£5,000

·        Helping Hand: £500-£1,500

·      Interest Free Loans: up to £100,000
