Children and Families

Organisations or groups that have contact with children need to be aware of their responsibilities for ensuring the safety of the children and young people in their care. It is important that organisations and groups have safeguarding procedures in place so that they can deal quickly and effectively with any concerns about child abuse or safeguarding issues. These concerns may arise from activities within the organisation or group but may also arise because of suspicion that a child involved in the organisation or group may have been abused elsewhere.

Safeguarding goes beyond child protection and includes:

  • Protecting children from abuse or neglect
  • Preventing impairment of the child’s health or development
  • Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Creating opportunities to enable children to have optimum life chances in adulthood

Dudley Safeguarding Children Board (DSCB) provides a wide range of safeguarding training events which are open to the local voluntary, community and faith sector. Most of the training events are free.
