Our strategic objectives

To develop a high quality and pro-active voluntary sector for the benefit of the
residents of the Dudley Borough by positively engaging partners in support of
voluntary activity

date

From 1 December 2014, private landlords, and their nominated agents, of properties in Birmingham, Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton, will be required to conduct checks to establish that new tenants have the right to rent in the UK. The Home Office is evaluating the scheme’s impact and will produce a final report in late 2015. The conclusions from the evaluation will help to ensure that they are aware of any issues that arise in implementing the scheme and identify areas of improvement before it is rolled out nationally

Dudley CVS previously sent out a survey for Home Office researchers in December 2014 which provided useful information regarding the awareness of the scheme amongst the VCS and any anticpated concerns or benefits groups had regarding the scheme. Home Office researchers are now conducting a second survey which will help them to find out people's experiences of the Right to Rent scheme and the impact that it is having. They have asked Dudley CVS and our colleagues in the other areas to send a link to this online survey to get voluntary and community organisations' feedback.

The scheme won’t be relevant to lots of groups and organisations. However, if your group or organisation works with, or represents, people who might be affected by the scheme then we hope you can complete the survey at:www.homeofficesurveys.homeoffice.gov.uk/s/VCSSurvey2 by 15 March 2015.

The Home Office researchers are also especially concerned to get views from Housing Associations on the scheme, because there may be impacts on housing associations tenancies (for example where social housing tenants have lodgers or sublet their property).

If you work for a Housing Association we hope that you can identify an individual, within your organisation, who can complete the survey. This might be, for example, someone who has an overview of your housing association’s work, or someone whose role involves tenant relationships. Please complete the survey at: www.homeofficesurveys.homeoffice.gov.uk/s/HousingAssociations2 by 15 March 2015.

Please contact miriam.davidson@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk or rebecca.linley@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk if you have any queries about this evaluation.
