Our strategic objectives

To develop a high quality and pro-active voluntary sector for the benefit of the
residents of the Dudley Borough by positively engaging partners in support of
voluntary activity

Members of BBC Radio WM staff will be spending time in various parts of Dudley between June 10th and June 16th and they are hoping to get really involved in the local community.

Part of this will involve broadcasting from different community locations and finding volunteering opportunities for staff and presenters, who have pledged their own time to help local charities and community organisations who might benefit from having a couple of members of BBC WM staff helping out for a few hours, or a day or two during the week.

Emily Thomson of BBC Radio WM is co-ordinating the ground work and is looking to find suitable opportunities in four areas: DY1 and 2 – Dudley; DY3 – Sedgley, Upper Gornal, Gornal Wood; DY5 – Brierley Hill, Pensnett and DY8 – Stourbridge, Wollaston, Old Winsford.

Emily is conscious that, normally, volunteers are needed to be committed and long-term, or have to go through prior training. But for this project she wants to find places where one-off volunteers can be a help. "BBC Radio WM staff obviously have media experience, but they also have a wealth of interests and other talents we want to share. We are working with the CSV Action Network (who are based at Radio WM) to try and achieve this. We will be broadcasting from the locations so charities and groups will some free publicity."
