Our strategic objectives

To develop a high quality and pro-active voluntary sector for the benefit of the
residents of the Dudley Borough by positively engaging partners in support of
voluntary activity

Sandwell Council of Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) is the leading infrastructure membership organisation for voluntary organisations and community groups in the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell. With a membership of over 650 not-for-profit bodies, SCVO provides a wide range of support services to enable Sector organisations to increase their effectiveness and sustainability, and leads engagement and representation of the Sector with local statutory partners.

SCVO are actively recruiting for an independent chair and a number of independent board members. As an independent, you must not be linked to SCVO member organisations nor associated with a voluntary sector group within Sandwell. These are voluntary roles, however any reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

You will lead the Board in setting and delivering the strategic direction of the organisation, ensuring you are committed to the values of a community focused organisation. You will have experience of the voluntary sector, business management and finance and a proven track record of leadership of a board. Your time commitment is approximately 2 days per month at our West Bromwich office with potential for meetings within the Black Country and wider West Midlands region.

Independent Board Member

As an independent board member, you will be part of a board of approximately 12 members and be tasked with working closely with the board and executive team to meet the organisations strategic aims and objectives. You must be committed to the values of a community focused organisation. You will scrutinise, review and monitor the management reports and constructively challenge the executive where necessary. Board membership is a 3-year rotation and the board meets quarterly.
