Funding

Voluntary organisations and charities that receive donations can derive additional income by signing up to Gift Aid. Almost £750M is unclaimed each year, which is money "lost" to the voluntary and community sector as a result of organisations not claiming what is due to them.

Gift Aid is a scheme that allows charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) to claim back the basic rate tax already paid on donations by the donor and is currently worth 25p for every pound donated by UK taxpayers.

Many organisations are put off applying for Gift Aid due to the amount of paperwork and the perceived complexities. However, the process of implementing Gift Aid isn't that daunting and there is plenty of help available to organisations that aren't already claiming Gift Aid.

The Institute of Fundraising website provides information on Gift Aid, see www.tax-effective-giving.org.uk/?pageid=About_Gift_Aid.xml where there is a very simple overview of the whole process with links to appropriate forms.
